The authors claim that their paper is based on ideas presented in the work [\textit{B. Rink} and \textit{J. Sanders}, SIAM J. Math. Anal. 46, No. 2, 1577--1609 (2014; Zbl 1384.37060)]. One starts with an extended discussion on some special phenomena in the theory of network dynamical systems and one reviews results on coupled cell networks, homogeneous networks, their symmetry properties and defines the fundamental network. One proves that every network is a quotient of a network with self-fibrations. Every network dynamical system can be seen as a dynamical system with a hidden symmetry. There is a large discussion on the importance of the hidden network symmetries and local bifurcations. Statements are proved by means of many examples. Further one shows how interior network symmetry can be interpreted as hidden network symmetry. The last section of the paper is devoted to the generalization of a set of previous results for homogeneous networks, to nonhomogeneous networks.
