The authors prove linear and nonlinear stability results for a double-diffusive Hadley-Pratts flow with a concentration based heat source and occurring in an infinite shallow horizontal saturated porous layer which is confined between two isothermal and isosolutal plates located at \(z=\pm d/2 \). After some transformations of the unknowns and of the equations, they end up with the system \[ q+\nabla P-\left(\frac{1}{Le}S+\theta \right)k=0, \,\nabla \cdot q=0, \,\left(\frac{\phi }{a}\right)\frac{\partial S}{\partial t}+q\cdot \nabla S=\frac{1 }{Le}\nabla ^{2}S, \,\frac{\partial \theta }{\partial t}+q\cdot \nabla \theta =\nabla ^{2}\theta +QS, \] where \(q\) is the fluid velocity, \(P\) its pressure, \(S\) the concentration, \(\theta \) the temperature, \(Q\) the internal heat source and \(Le\) the Lewis number. Dirichlet boundary conditions are imposed on \(q\), \(S\), and \(\theta \) at \(z=\pm 1/2\). The authors first propose a basic state solution \((q_{s},S_{s},\theta _{s},P_{s})\) to this problem. They then analyze the linear stability of this solution, considering linear disturbances \(q^{\prime }=q-q_{s}\), \(S^{\prime }=S-S_{s}\), \(\theta ^{\prime }=\theta -\theta _{s}\), \(P^{\prime }=P-P_{s}\) and neglecting the products of disturbances. They write the problem satisfied by \((q^{\prime },S^{\prime },\theta ^{\prime },P^{\prime })\) with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions imposed on \(q^{\prime }\), \(S^{\prime }\), and \(\theta ^{\prime }\) at \(z=\pm 1/2\). Still considering linear disturbances, they prove a nonlinear stability result, multiplying the equations satisfied by \( (q^{\prime },S^{\prime },\theta ^{\prime },P^{\prime })\) by this solution. In both cases, they introduce eigenvalue problems. In the final part of their paper, the authors propose a numerical scheme for the resolution of these eigenvalue problems, in order to analyze the effect of a concentration based heat source. This numerical scheme was previously proposed by \textit{A. Barletta} and \textit{D. A. Nield} [J. Fluid Mech. 710, 304--323 (2012; Zbl 1275.76195)]. The authors describe the variations of the thermal Rayleigh number in terms of a dimensionless mass flow parameter and of the Lewis number \(Le\).
