The authors formulate an optimal control problem for a system governed by 3D Navier-Stokes equations and a quadratic objective functional. Then, first-order necessary optimality conditions for controls with pointwise constraints are presented. The result is obtained by the use of the diffuse variation method and techniques of compact imbeddings, regularity of solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations and the abstract Pontryagin maximum principle. The paper does not contain any numerical examples illustrating possible application of the presented results.
