Assume that a group \(G=AB\), where \(A\) and \(B\) are subgroups of \(G\) each of which is either abelian or has a quasicyclic subgroup of index 2. In the article under review, the authors prove that \(G\) must be soluble of derived length at most 3. This main result admits some interesting corollaries. In particular, it was shown that if \(A\) is abelian and \(B\) is a locally quaternion group, then \(G\) is soluble. This gives a positive answer to Question 18.95 of [\textit{V. D. Mazurov} (ed.) and \textit{E. I. Khukhro} (ed.), The Kourovka notebook. Unsolved problems in group theory. 18th edition. Novosibirsk: Institute of Mathematics, Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Div. (2014; Zbl 1372.20001)] posed by A. I. Sozutov.
