    In response to a conjecture of \textit{Z.-X. Chen} and \textit{H.-X. Yi} [Result. Math. 63, No. 1--2, 557--565 (2013; Zbl 1267.30077)] the authors prove the following result: Let \(f\) be a transcendental meromorphic function of finite order and let \(\Delta f = f(z + c) - f(z)\) (\(\not\equiv 0\)), where \(c \neq 0\) is a finite number. If \(\Delta f\) and \(f\) share three distinct values \(e_{1}, e_{2}, \infty\) with counting multiplicities, then \(f = \Delta f\).
