The authors consider the two-dimensional heat-conduction equation (with a smooth, uniformly positive-definite heat conduction matrix) along with homogeneous first-kind boundary values and its discretization on a conforming shape-regular quadrilateral mesh. To get \(k\)-th order, the mesh is equidistantly further subdivided using the control volumes around the \(k\)-th order tensor-Gauss-Lobatto points. On this dual mesh, using heavily former work like [\textit{Z. Zhang} and \textit{Q. Zou}, Numer. Math. 130, No. 2, 363--393 (2015; Zbl 1338.65233)], they consider a finite-volume approximation and its convergence in \(L^\infty\) and \(W^{1,\infty}\) by comparing it with the bilinear form of the corresponding finite-element discretization and using also the Green's function of the finite-volume discretization. The theoretical results are tested, according to the paper, on uniform triangular meshes for the unit square and the Laplace equation, for orders up to 4.
