Let \(F\) denote a \(p\)-adic local field of characteristic zero with residue field \(\mathfrak{f}\). An irreducible supercuspidal representation \(\pi\) of \(\mathrm{GL}_n(F)\) is called a \textit{level zero} representation, if it is induced from an irreducible representation \(\sigma\) of \(\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathfrak{f})\). Jacquet, Piatekski-Shapiro and Shalika defined a gamma factor \(\gamma(\pi\times\tau)\) for two irreducible representations \(\pi\) of \(\mathrm{GL}_n(F)\) and \(\tau\) of \(\mathrm{GL}_m(F)\). In [\textit{C. Nien}, Am. J. Math. 136, No. 3, 653--674 (2014; Zbl 1376.11044)] there is given a definition of a finite field gamma factor \(\gamma(\sigma_1\times\sigma_2)\) for two irreducible representations of \(\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathfrak{f})\) and \(\mathrm{GL}_m(\mathfrak{f})\) respectively. The main result of the present paper states that the two factors coincide, i.e. that \[ \gamma(\pi_1\times\pi_2)=\gamma(\sigma_1\times\sigma_2) \] holds if \(\pi_j\) is induced from \(\sigma_j\), \(j=1,2\). A former conjecture of Jacquet's and now a theorem of \textit{J. Chai} [J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 21, No. 6, 1703--1728 (2019; Zbl 1476.11082)] and independently of \textit{H. Jacquet} and \textit{B. Liu} [Am. J. Math. 140, No. 5, 1399--1422 (2018; Zbl 1451.11042)] says that if for two irreducible representations \(\pi,\pi'\) of \(\mathrm{GL}_n(F)\) one has \[ \gamma(\pi\times\tau)=\gamma(\pi'\times\tau) \] for every irreducible representation \(\tau\) of \(\mathrm{GL}_r(F)\) for \(1\le r\le [n/2]\), then \(\pi\cong \pi'\). The current paper's result is finally applied by the author to show that if \(\pi,\pi'\) are level zero representations, then it suffices to have the same gamma factors for all level zero representations \(\tau\) for the conclusion to hold.
