    A classical Steinhaus's theorem states that for a Lebesgue measure $\lambda$ on $\mathbb{R}$, if $X$ is Lebesgue measurable with strictly positive measure, then the difference set $X -X$ is a neighborhood of zero. The author constructs a measure $\mu$ on $\mathbb{R}$ which extends $\lambda$ and such that there exists a $\mu$-mesurable set $Z$, with $\mu(Z)>0$, and both $Z-Z$ and $Z+Z$ are totally imperfect (in particular, the Steinhaus property does not hold for $\mu$).
