The Bott-Samuelson-Demazure-Hansen (BSDH) varieties of this paper arise as follows: if \(G\) is a somple simply connected complex linear algebraic group with Borel subgroup \(B\), then for each element \(w\) of the Weyl group for \(G\) one has a Schubert variety \(X(w)\) inside the flag variety \(G/B\). Given a reduced expression \(w = s_{i_1}\ldots s_{i_r}\) for \(w\) in terms of the generators for the Weyl group, there is a desingularization \(Z(w,\underline{i})\) of \(X(w)\), where \(\underline{i} = (i_1,\ldots,i_r)\). The purpose of this paper is to study the GIT quotient of such a variety by a maximal torus \(T\) of \(G\), and the algebraic automorphisms of such a quotient. The main results of the paper relates quotients of line bundles for a BDSH-variety to those for the related Schubert variety, and also shows that in the case where \(G = \mathrm{SL}_{n+1}\) the group of algebraic automorphisms of such a quotient has trivial identity component.
