Given \(B, E, F\) compact connected ANR's, \(V\) open in \(B\), a Hurewicz fibration \(p \colon E \to B\) and an (admissible) fibre-preserving map \(f \colon U = p^{-1}(V) \to E\), the main theorem of the article (Theorem 5.1) states that the index of a (Nielsen) fixed point class in \(U\) is the product of the index of the projected class in \(B\) and the index restricted to the fibre. The result is an extension to maps defined on an open set of fibres of the results of \textit{C.-Y. You} [Pac. J. Math. 100, 217--241 (1982; Zbl 0512.55004)], where the product formula for the indices was proved for fibre-preserving maps \(f \colon E \to E\). In turn, this work builds around a product formula for Nielsen numbers introduced in [\textit{R. F. Brown}, Ann. Math. (2) 85, 483--493 (1967; Zbl 0149.20304)].
