An extension \(R\subseteq S\) of commutative unital rings is called an FCP extension, if each chain of \(R\)-subalgebras of \(S\) is finite. The extension is called residually FCP, if for any prime ideal \(\mathfrak{q}\) of \(S\), the ring extension \(R/(\mathfrak{q}\cap R)\subseteq S/\mathfrak{q}\) is an FCP extension. The paper is devoted to the study of residually finite FCP extensions. The main result is that if \(R\subseteq S\) is residually FCP and \(\dim(R)=0,\) then \(S\) is integral over \(R\) and \(\dim(S)=0.\) It is shown that, on the other hand, for every \(n\geq 1,\) there exists a residually FCP extension \(R\subseteq S,\) such that \(\dim(R)=n\) and \(\dim(S)=0.\)
