The purpose of this article is to find \(q\)-analogues for the basic trigonometric identities \(\sin^2x+\cos^2x=1\) and the little-known formula \(\sin(x-y)\sin(x+y)=\sin^2x-\sin^2y\) by using Gosper's \(q\)-trigonometry. The proofs use the first Jacobi theta function and is thus only indirectly \(q\)-calculus. As usual in \(q\)-calculus, multiple forms arise. In the end, some more general results are proved. Based on formulas for the \(\Gamma_q\)-function, it is not unlikely that similar results for the three other Jacobi theta functions exist.
