Let \(\lambda>1\) be a real number. A Banach lattice \(P\) is \(\lambda\)-projective if whenever \(X\) is a Banach lattice, \(J\) a closed ideal in \(X\) and \(Q:X\rightarrow X/J\) the quotient map, then for every Banach lattice homomorphism \(T:P\rightarrow X/J\), there is a Banach lattice homomorphism \(\hat{T}:P\rightarrow X\) such that \(T=Q\circ \hat T\) and \(\|\hat T\|\leq \lambda\|T\|\). A Banach lattice is called projective if it is \((1 +\epsilon)\)-projective for every \(\epsilon >0\). In this paper, the authors further develop the investigation of projective Banach lattices initiated by \textit{B. de Pagter} and \textit{A. W. Wickstead} [Proc. R. Soc. Edinb., Sect. A, Math. 145, No. 1, 105--143 (2015; Zbl 1325.46020)]. Among other results, they show that if a Banach lattice is projective, then every bounded sequence that can be mapped by a homomorphism onto the basis of \(c_0\) must contain an \(l_1\)-subsequence. As a consequence, if Banach lattices \(l_p\) or $\mathrm{FBL}[E]$ are projective, then \(p = 1\) or \(E\) has the Schur property, respectively. On the other hand, it is proven that \(C(K)\) is projective if and only if \(K\) is an absolute neighbourhood retract, answering thereby a question of de Pagter and Wickstead [loc.~cit.].
