In this paper, the author generates mirror pairs of Calabi-Yau manifolds through a new ad hoc construction; more precisely, the paper gives \(6518\) pairs of manifolds whose Hodge diamonds are mirror to one another. \par The starting point of the construction are quasi-Fano manifolds, smooth varieties whose anti-canonical system contains a Calabi-Yau manifold, called \(D\), and such that the higher cohomology of the structure sheaf is trivial. Consider now a normal crossing variety \(\mathcal X\), union of two quasi-Fano manifolds \(X_1\) and \(X_2\) such that \(D=X_1\cap X_2\) is an anticanonical section of both \(X_i\)'s. A Calabi-Yau manifold is then obtained through smoothing (i.e. by reversing the process of semi-stable degeneration). The author shows that mirror Calabi-Yau threefolds are obtained in this way when starting with two pairs of mirror quasi-Fano manifolds, that is, quasi-Fano manifolds which are mutually compactification of the Landau-Ginzburg model of the other.
