In this paper, the authors introduce and study two new classes of subsets in $T_0$-spaces called Rudin sets and \(\mathsf{WD}\) sets. With these notions, they define three new types of topological spaces namely \(\mathsf{DC}\)-spaces, Rudin spaces and \(\mathsf{WD}\) spaces. Using these new notions, the authors establish some new characterizations of well-filtered spaces and sober spaces. Some implications between locally compact $T_0$-spaces, Rudin spaces, core compact $T_0$-spaces and \(\mathsf{WD}\) spaces are completely determined. As an important consequence, they give a positive answer to the Jia-Juing problem [\textit{X. Jia} et al., Topology Appl. 209, 235--238 (2016; Zbl 1355.54013)].
