The author discusses the classical concepts of convergence and absolute convergence of real valued series, providing a survey of classical and modern theorems related to the topic. First he discusses the Ratio Test and Root Test for convergence, compares them and surveys some related theorems as well as the Stolz and Cesàro Theorem related to means and Cesàro convergence. Afterwards he presents the Raabe and Jamet Tests for covergence of series. Comparing these two tests he observes that the Jamet Test turns out to be more versatile, while the Raabe Test is sometimes more sensitive. Finally the author provides some recommendations on including the mentioned tests of convergence in mathematics undergraduate curricula.
