The Wiener index of a connected graph \(G\) is defined as the sum of all distances between all pairs of unordered vertices in \(G\). This article under review obtained the explicit analytical expression for the expected value of the Wiener index in random \((2k+2)\)-polycyclic chains of length \(n\), which are formed by \(n\) cycles of length \(2k+2\), where \(k\) and \(n\) are positive integers. This yields the corresponding results in hexagonal chains (see [\textit{I. Gutman} et al., Chem. Phys. Lett. 173, 403--408 (1990)]) and octagonal chains.
