The author generalizes the classical Jacobi embedding theorem for closed Riemannian surfaces to nonorientable closed Riemannian surfaces. He gives necessary and sufficient conformal conditions for the surface to embed in its Albanese variety. Applications of the main theorem to the study of periodic minimal surfaces is also discussed.
