The main objects of the excellent paper under review are the principally polarized abelian varieties. The behavior of various invariants related to those objects under quadratic twist are studied by the author. In Theorem 1.1, he determines the distribution of the parities of \(2\)-Selmer ranks in the quadratic twists families of an arbitrary principally polarized abelian variety. This result generalizes the work of \textit{Z. Klagsbrun} et al. [Ann. Math. (2) 178, No. 1, 287--320 (2013; Zbl 1300.11063)] in the case of elliptic curves as well as the work of \textit{M. Yu} [J. Number Theory 160, 148--185 (2016; Zbl 1334.11048)] in the case of Jacobians of odd degree hyperelliptic curves. In order to show that how the parity of Mordell-Weil ranks of those objects behaves in quadratic twists family, the author prove a version of Theorem 1.1 \(2^\infty\)-Selmer ranks in Theorem 1.2. The behavior of the ``nonsquare order Shafarevich-Tate group'' under quadratic twists, which is showed in Theorem 1.4, is the key step in passing between Theorem 1.1 and Theorem 1.2.
