This paper deals with connections between star operations and Jaffard families over a commutativ integral domain \(R\). Recall that a star operation is a map \(*\) from the set of fractional ideals \(\mathcal F(R)\) to itself such that \(I\subseteq I^{*}, I^{**}=I^{*}\) for every \(I\in \mathcal F(R)\), etc. A Jaffard family \(\Theta\) on \(R\) is a set of overrings of \(R\) with certain properties, e.g., \(\Theta\) is locally finite, etc. The author defines a star operation \(*\) of \(R\) to be \textit{extendable} to a flat overring \(T\) if the map \(*_T: \mathcal F(T)\to \mathcal F(T),\ I\mapsto IT^{*}\) is well-defined. He defines a bijection from \(\text{ Star }(R)\) onto the cartesian product \( \prod_{T\in \Theta}\text{ Star }(T)\) mapping \(*\) in \(\text{ Star }(R)\) to \((*_T)_{T\in\Theta}\). Moreover, he proves that a star operation \(*\in \text{ Star }(R)\) is of finite type (resp. semifinite, stable, spectral, Noetherian, eab, ab) if and only if \(*_T\) is of finite type (resp. semifinite, stable, spectral, Noetherian, eab, ab) for every \(T\in \Theta\). The author obtains a group isomorphism \(G_{*}(R)\cong \bigoplus_{T\in\Theta}G_{*_T}(T)\), where \(G_{*}\) is the local \(*\)-class group of \(R\). The author applies his methods `` to study the set of star operations on a Prüfer domain \(R\), in particular the set of stable star operations and the star-class groups of \(R\).''
