Let \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) be real numbers \((\alpha, \beta > - 1)\), \(\{a_ m\}\) and \(\{a_{mn}\}\) real sequences, \(\{\varphi_ m (x)\}\) and \(\{\varphi_{mn} (x,y)\}\) orthonormal systems (ONS) on \([0,1]\) and on \([0,1]^ 2\), respectively. The \((C,\alpha)\)- and \((C, \alpha, \beta)\)- means of the series \(\Sigma a_ m \varphi_ m (x)\) and \(\Sigma a_{mn} \varphi_{mn} (x, y)\) are defined as follows: \[ \sigma_ m^ \alpha (x) = {1 \over A^ \alpha_ m} \sum^ m_{k = 0} A^ \alpha_{m - k} a_ k \varphi_ k (x),\;\sigma_{mn}^{\alpha \beta} (x) = {1 \over A^ \alpha_ m A_ n^ \beta} \sum^ m_{k = 0} \sum^ n_{l = 0} A^ \alpha_{m - k} A^ \beta_{n -l} a_{kl} \varphi_{kl} (x,y), \] where \(A_ m^ \alpha = {m + \alpha \choose m}\). The following theorems are proved. I. If \(S = \sum^ \infty_{m = 0} \sum^ \infty_{n = 0} a^ 2_{mn} (m + 1)^{-2 \alpha}(n+1)^{-2\beta}\) \((-1<\alpha,\beta<0)\), then \(\sigma^{\alpha\beta}_{mn}(x)\) converges a.e. on \([0,1]^ 2\) as \(\min (m,n) \to \infty\). If \(S = \infty\) then there exists an \(\text{ONS} \{\varphi_{mn}\}\) on \([0,1]^ 2\), for which \(\limsup_{\min (m,n) \to \infty} | \sigma_{mn}^{\alpha \beta} (x,y) | = \infty\) a.e. on \([0,1]^ 2\). II. If \(\sum^ \infty_{m = 0} a^ 2_ m (m + 1)^{-2 \alpha} = \infty\) \((-1 < \alpha < 0)\) then there exists an \(\text{ONS} \{\varphi_ m\}\) on \([0,1]\) for which \(\limsup_{m \to \infty} | \sigma^ \alpha_ m (x) | = \infty\) a.e. on \([0,1]\).
