Let \(\phi: \mathbb R^+ \to\mathbb R^+\) be a convex continuous function such that \(\phi(t)=0\) only if \(t=0\). Let \(X\) be a normed space. The \(\phi\)-variation of a function \(f: [a,b] \to X\) is defined by \[ V_\phi(f):=\sup \sum \phi( \| f(t_i)-f(t_{i-1}) \| ), \] where the supremum is taken on the set of all partitions of \([a,b]\). This generalized notion of variation was introduced by L.~C.~Young in 1937 and has been studied for real-valued functions by \textit{L. Maligranda} and \textit{W. Orlicz} [Monatsh. Math. 104, No. 1, 53--65 (1987; Zbl 0623.26009)] and references therein). The first part of the paper under review is a continuation of the study of the properties of functions of bounded \(\phi\)-variation with values in a normed space already started in an interesting series of papers [\textit{V. V. Chistyakov} and \textit{O. E. Galkin}, J. Dyn. Control Syst. 4, No. 2, 217--247 (1998); translation from Mat. Sb. 189, No.~5, 153--173 (1998; Zbl 0940.26010)] and \textit{V. V. Chistyakov} [Sb. Math. 189, No. 5, 797--819 (1998); translation from Mat. Sb. 189, No. 5, 153--176 (1998; Zbl 0933.26014) and J. Dyn. Control Syst. 3, No. 2, 261--289 (1997; Zbl 0940.26009)]. Now let \(W_\phi([a,b],X)\) be the normed space of all functions \(f: [a,b] \to X\) such that \(V_\phi(f/\lambda) < \infty\) for some \(\lambda>0\), endowed with the corresponding Luxemburg-Nakano-Orlicz norm. Take another normed space \(Y\) and a function \(h: [a,b] \times X\to Y\), then the operator \((Hf)(t):=h(t,f(t))\) is called the Nemytskij composition operator generated by \(h\). The second part of this paper is devoted to characterize the functions \(h\) such that \(H\) is a Lipschitzian mapping from \(W_\phi([a,b],X)\) into \(W_\psi([a,b],Y)\) as, roughly speaking (complete details being too involved to be described here), those that can be written as \(h(t,x)=h_0(t)+h_1(t)x\), where \(h_0 \in W_\psi([a,b],Y)\) and \(h_1 \in W_\psi([a,b],L(X,Y))\).
