\(A\)-properness of contractive and condensing maps (Q1599954)

The authors study \(A\)-properness of condensing perturbations of the identity and related maps in a possibly non-reflexive Banach space. An application to the strongly nonlinear differential equation \[ x''(t)+ f(t, x(x), x'(t),x''(t))\quad\text{on } [0,1], \] subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions, is given as well. This extends (and in part corrects) some previous results by \textit{B. Laferriere} and \textit{W. V. Petryshyn} [ibid. 13, No. 12, 1427-1440 (1989; Zbl 0702.47036)] and the second author [Boll. Unione Mat. Ital., IV. Ser. 4, 614-629 (1971; Zbl 0219.47058)].
