    The Lyapunov stability of the equilibrium points of autonomous nonlinear vector difference equations is investigated. A simple proof is given to show that having all the eigenvalues of the Jacobian matrix in or on the unit circle is necessary for the stability of the equilibrium point. However, examples are given to illustrate that it is by no means sufficient.
