This paper continues the research which was started by \textit{V.\,P.\thinspace Fonf, M.\,Lin} and \textit{P.\,Woj\-taszczyk} [J.~Funct.\ Anal.\ 187, No.\,1, 146--162 (2001; Zbl 1017.46007)] and \textit{A.\,A.\thinspace Albanese, W.\,Ricker} and the reviewer [Ann.\ Acad.\ Sci.\ Fenn., Math.\ 34, No.\,2, 401--436 (2009; Zbl 1194.47012)], concerning both the connection between the properties of bases and (quasi)-reflexivity and the connection between mean ergodic operators and (quasi)-reflexivity in the setting of complete barrelled locally convex spaces with bases. The author extends here his results from [J.~Math.\ Anal.\ Appl.\ 361, No.\,1, 224--233 (2010; Zbl 1190.46003)] beyond the Fréchet space setting. He shows, among other results, that a complete barrelled locally convex space \(X\) with a Schauder basis is quasireflexive of order \(n\) if and only if, for every basis, there exists \(0 \leq k \leq n\) such that the basis is \((n - k)\)-boundedly complete and \(k\)-shrinking. The duality relation between \(k\)-boundedly complete bases and \(k\)-shrinking bases in the framework of Fréchet and (DF)-spaces with bases is investigated, too, thereby extending corresponding results of Singer in the Banach space setting. Finally, quasi-reflexive complete barrelled locally convex spaces with bases are characterized in terms of the mean ergodicity of power bounded operators acting on the space.
