This paper derives a recurrence relation for \(D_{n,k}\), the number of elements in the group of even-signed permutations (or a Coxeter group of type \(D\) of rank \(n\)) with \(k\) descents, solving an open problem raised in \textit{F. Brenti} [Eur. J. Comb. 15, 417--441 (1994; Zbl 0809.05012)]. The recurrence is derived through a series of recurrences for some conditional descents and involves quadratic factors (in \(n\) and \(k\)).
