This paper concerns the theoretical analysis of a secant method to compute a zero of an operator F on an abstract space E which is endowed with a distance measured in a partially ordered Banach space. It is well- known that such a structure defines a norm on the abstract space E. In Newton's method the derivative is replaced by a general finite difference expression depending on two independent variables. A local convergence theorem is developed along the lines of standard thought. The paper is theoretical in nature and discusses no examples.
