This note is concerned with tilings in the three 2-dimensional complete simply-connected spaces of constant curvature, i.e. the Euclidean plane, the two-dimensional sphere and the hyperbolic plane. The authors consider the groups of isometries of these planes. Such a group with compact fundamental domain is called a symmetry group of finite orbit type. Let \(M\) be a compact 2-dimensional manifold and \(S\) an appropriate signature for \(M\). Then \((M,S)\) is called a 2-dimensional orbifold. Any symmetry group of finite orbit type defines an orbifold [cf. \textit{Eh. B. Vinberg}, Geometry II, Springer Berlin-Heidelberg (1993; Zbl 0643.00020)]. Now this paper summarizes and continues the results of the two authors presented some years ago [the first author, Diskontinuierliche Gruppen als Automorphismengruppen von Pflasterungen. Master's thesis. Univ. Bonn (1990; Zbl 0749.20024), the second author, Geom. Dedicata 47, No. 3, 269-296 (1993; Zbl 0787.52011)]. For the triangulation of a 2-dimensional orbifold in terms of the Delaney-Dress symbols of a periodic tiling, the authors discuss the computation of its orbifold symbols as defined by \textit{J. H. Conway} [Lond. Math. Soc., Lect. Note Ser. 165, 438-447 (1992; Zbl 0835.20048)]. Then their method is applied to obtain a refined classification of equivariant tilings for certain hyperbolic symmetry groups. These results are listed in two tables.
