Christoffel functions are connected with orthogonal polynomials, convergence of orthogonal expansion, reproducing kernels, spectral properties of Jacobi matrices and have a variety of applications. In particular, recently a new domain recovery technique has been devised using the asymptotic behavior of these functions. Initially, asymptotics for Christoffel functions for measures on the unit circle or on \([-1,1]\) have been studied by \textit{G. Szegő} [Collected papers. Vol. 1: 1915--1927. Vol. 2: 1927--1943. Vol. 3: 1945--1972. Ed. by Richard Askey. Birkhäuser, Cham (1982; Zbl 0491.01016)]. Their behavior outside the support of the measure and at points of \((-1,1)\) also has been discussed by Szegő [loc. cit.]. \textit{L. Golinskii} [J. Approx. Theory 101, No. 2, 165--174 (1999; Zbl 0939.33005)] established first result for a Jordan arc. In this paper, the asymptotic behavior of Christoffel functions on Jordan curves and arcs has been investigated. Basic notations and results have been used from potential theory. Moreover, the asymptotics for power type weights on unions of Jordan curves and arcs have been obtained using Hilbert's lemniscate theorem and Bessel functions. The approach is potential theoretic and the results are very interesting. The main results of the paper are two theorems. Theorem 1.1 is concerned with the asymptotics at the points diffrent from end points of the arc components and Theorem 1.2 describes the behavior of Christoffel function at an end point.
