Positivity in time dependent linear transport theory (Q1067186)

This paper is mainly a review on asymptotic properties of the solutions of neutron transport equation, but contain also some improvements of earlier results. One studies spectral properties of the associated \(C_ 0\) semigroup in \(L^ p\) space. Under weaker conditions as those in the literature, the spectral radius and the spectrum for ''absorption'' of the semigroup generated by the differentiation and multiplication part of the equation are deduced. Then, via Dyson-Phillips expansion, some relations with the spectral radius of the ''full'' semigroup (corresponding to the whole equation) are derived. The paper establishes also theorems regarding the approximate point spectrum and peripheral spectrum of positive \(C_ 0\) semigroups in Banach spaces. The relations with many references are carefully commented.
