The piezoelectric ink jet mechanism used in modern printer technology is modelled by means of a level set method on a Cartesian grid. The model is based on the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with surface tension and density jump between air and ink and is coupled with an electric circuit model. A macroscopic contact model is used to model the interactions between air, ink and walls. A thorough comparison with experimental data shows the potential of the described method.
