Denote by \(\widetilde{C}\) the space of continuous \(2\pi\)-periodic functions \(f\) endowed with the uniform norm \(\|f\| := \max\limits_{x\in \mathbb{R}} |f(x)|\) and by \(\omega_m (f,t)\) the \(m\)-th modulus of smoothness of \(f\). Furthermore, denote by \(\widetilde{C}^r\) the subspace of \(r\)-times continuously differentiable functions \(f\in\widetilde{C}\). Let \(\mathbb{T}_n\) be the set of trigonometric polynomials \(T_n\) of degree less than \(n\). If \(f\in\widetilde{C}^r\) has \(2s\), \(s \geq 1\), extremal points in \((-\pi,\pi]\), define as \[ E_n^{(1)}(f):= \inf\limits_{T_n\in \mathbb{T}_n : f' T_n' \geq 0} \|f-T_n\| \] the error of its best comonotone approximation. The authors prove that if \(f\in\widetilde{C}^r\) then, for either \(m=1\), or \(m=2\) and \(r=2s\), or \(m\in\mathbb{N}\) and \(r > 2s\), \[ E_n^{(1)}(f) \leq \frac{c(m,r,s)}{n^r}\,\omega_m(f^{(r)}, 1/n), \quad n\geq 1, \] where the constant \(c(m,r,s)\) depends only on \(m\), \(r\), and \(s\).
