Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(R=\sum_{g\in G}R_g\) be a \(G\)-graded associative algebra over any field \(F\). A result of \textit{J. Bergen, M. Cohen} [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 18, 159-164 (1986; Zbl 0563.16003)] gives that if the unity component \(R_1\) satisfies a polynomial identity, then the whole algebra \(R\) also satisfies a polynomial identity. The proof of Bergen and Cohen uses structure theory of rings and does not give a bound for the degree of the identity for \(R\). The main purpose of the paper under review is to obtain explicit upper bounds for the degree \(n\) of the polynomial identity of \(R\) in terms of the degree \(d\) of the identity for \(R_1\) and the order \(s\) of the group \(G\). In particular, the authors show that \(R\) satisfies an identity of degree \(n\) as soon as \(n\) satisfies the inequality \(s^n(sd-1)^{2n}/(sd-1)!<n!\). A simplified version of this result is for every \(n\) such that \(es(sd-1)^2\leq n\), where \(e\) is the base of the natural logarithm. The proof involves techniques inspired by counting the good permutations in Latyshev's proof of Regev's \(A\otimes B\)-theorem and further estimates of the number of good permutations due to Regev. As a by-product the authors obtain an explicit bound for the degree of polynomial identities satisfied by algebras with action of a finite dimensional semisimple commutative Hopf algebra.
