This article is a survey of the results about a priori estimates of the norm of the radius-vector of an ovaloid of positive curvature in terms of the surface metric. These results were obtained by Weyl, Pogorelov, Nirenberg, Heinz. In the second part of the article the author gives a strengthening of some of these results when the surfaces have weaker regularity conditions. The basic result is the following theorem: Let \(\{S^ n\}^{\infty}_{n=1}\) be a sequence of isometric simply connected surfaces of positive Gaussian curvature \(K\geq const>0\) of class \(C^ 3_{\alpha}\), \(0<\alpha <1\), situated in three-dimensional Euclidean space; let \({\mathcal L}^ n=\partial S^ n\) be the boundary of the surface \(S^ n\); let \({\mathcal L}^ n\in C^ 3_{\alpha}\); let D be a unit disk in the (u,v)-plane in which the surfaces \(S^ n\) are parametrized in such a way that points corresponding under an isometry have the same coordinates (u,v); let \(\partial D=\Gamma\), \(\bar D=D\cup \Gamma:\) and let \(S^ n\in C^ 3_{\alpha}(\bar D)\). If the boundary values of the coefficients of the second fundamental forms \(L^ n=b^ n_{11}\), \(M^ n=b^ n_{12}\), \(N^ n=b^ n_{22}\) of the surfaces \(S^ n\) are bounded uniformly in n, then the coefficients \(b^ n_{ij}\) are bounded in \(\bar D\) uniformly in n: \[ | b^ n_{ij}| \leq const,\quad i,j=1,2,\quad (u,v)\in \bar D. \]
