The authors are interested in almost everywhere convergence and convergence in \(L^p({\mathbb R}^d)\)-norm of the \(\ell-1\) Riesz means \({\mathcal S}^{\delta}_{R;d}(f;x)\) defined by \[ {\mathcal S}^{\delta}_{R;d}(f;x)=\int_{|v|_1\leq R}\left(1-\frac{|v|_1}{R}\right)^{\delta} e^{i\langle v,x\rangle}\widehat f (v) dv,\quad R>0, \] for \(f\in L^p({\mathbb R}^d)\). In previous work, \textit{H. Berens} and \textit{Y. Xu} [Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 122, No. 1, 149-172 (1997; Zbl 0881.42007) and Approximation Theory VIII (C. K. Chui and L. L. Schumaker, eds.), World Scientific. Ser. Approx. Decompos. 6, 55-62 (1995; Zbl 1137.42305)] proved that this problem holds for \(\delta>0\) by describing the Dirichlet kernel in terms of B-spline theory and checking up the integrability of the Riesz kernel. In this paper, the authors use a new representation of the \(\ell-1\) Riesz kernel derived from the \(\ell-1\) Poisson kernel to furnish another proof.
