Let A,B be two \(n\times n\) positive definite or Hermitian matrices and suppose \(n>1\). (Reviewer's remark: This last assumption should be added to the text.) It is shown that (I) trace \((AB)>0\) (II) \(\sqrt{trace\quad (AB)}<(trace A+trace B)/2\).
