    [For part V, cf. Acta Arith. 43, 425-440 (1984; Zbl 0544.12013); part VI, ibid. 47, 277-293 (1986)]. For a given polynomial \(f\in {\mathbb{C}}[x]\) let \(Kf(x)\) be \(f(x)\) deprived of all its factors \(x-\zeta\), where \(\zeta\) is 0 or a root of unity. The coefficients of \(Kf(x)\) belong to the field generated by the coefficients of f. The following theorem is proved. Let \(k>1\) and let \(\alpha_ 0,\alpha_ 1,...,\alpha_ k\) be non-zero algebraic numbers such that \(\alpha_ j\in {\mathbb{Q}}(\alpha_ 1/\alpha_ 0,...,\alpha_ k/\alpha_ 0)=K_ 0\) (0\(\leq j\leq k)\). The number of integer vectors \([n_ 1,n_ 2,...,n_ k]\) such that \(0<n_ 1<n_ 2<...<n_ k\leq N\) (N\(\geq 3)\) and \(K(\alpha_ 0+\sum^{k}_{j=1}\alpha_ j x^{n_ j})\) is reducible over \(K_ 0\) is less than \[ C(\alpha) N^{k-\frac{\min \{k,6\}}{2(k- 1)}}(\log N)^{10}\cdot (\log \log N)^{-9}, \] where \(C(\alpha)\in {\mathbb{R}}\) depends only on \(\alpha_ 0,...,\alpha_ k\). For the case where \(K(\alpha_ 0+\sum^{k}_{j=1}\alpha_ j x^{n_ j})\) is constant there is a stronger estimate, thus \(K(\alpha_ 0+\sum^{k}_{j=1}\alpha_ j x^{n_ j})\) is irreducible over \(K_ 0\) for almost all vectors \([n_ 1,...,n_ k]\).
