The authors note that, if the norms of the row vectors of the Hessian of a parametric surface are known then a triangulation satisfying a tolerance condition can be constructed in parameter space (a well behaved plane domain). Because of its nice properties, they use Delaunay subdivisions in parameter space. \{Since in this approximation all vertices lie on the surface, no pathological phenomenon like H. A. Schwarz's \(\varepsilon\)-approximation of a cylinder by a triangulated surface of arbitrarily large surface area can happen.\} The authors also discuss the problem of fitting together surfaces patched together from different parametrically surface pieces. That part of the method could use some improvement to eliminate the need for interactive choices.
