    The separation principle is used for detecting limit cycles in a slow- fast third-order system: \[ \dot x=x[r(1-\frac{x}{k})-\frac{a_ 1y}{b_ 1+x}], \] \[ \epsilon \dot y=y[-d_ 1-e_ 1y+\frac{c_ 1x}{b_ 1+x}- \frac{a_ 2z}{b_ 2+y}], \] \[ \delta \epsilon \dot z=z[-d_ 2-e_ 2z+\frac{c_ 2y}{b_ 2+y}]. \] This system describes a food chain of three populations with trophic levels with diversified time responses.
