The paper deals with two generalizations of the one-dimensional thin film equation \[ \frac{\partial u}{\partial t} = - \frac{\partial}{\partial x} \biggl(u^n \frac{\partial ^3 u}{\partial x^3}\biggr), \] which are motivated by applications to the spreading of power-law fluids. Giving some examples of exact solutions (as steady states or travelling waves) the author discusses in the sequel te large time behaviour of an arbitrary solution.
