The authors investigate the transient response of a piezo-thermoelastic circular disc of finite thickness under axisymmetric heating of one face, the other face being kept at a constant temperature. Both faces are traction-free, and the cylindrical surface of the disc is thermally insulated, electrically charge free and constrained in the radial direction by a concentric rigid ring. The mechanical displacements and the electric field components are expressed in terms of potential functions. Then the authors obtain an exact solution to the problem for a general boundary temperature on the heated face (depending solely on the radial coordinate, however), and discuss the results for a concrete numerical example.
