The author lists as many as 12 purely topological properties of a compact connected Abelian group \(G\) (or of its exponential function or of its character group), each of which is known to imply that \(G\) is a torus group (i.e., an arbitrary power of the circle group). He extends the list by two new properties, namely (1) \(G\) is an \(AE(1)\)-compactum (i.e., any map \(g_0: Z_0\to G\), defined on a closed subspace of an at most 1-dimensional compactum \(Z\), extends to all of \(Z)\), and (2) the exponential map \(\exp:L(G)\to G\) is 0-soft (i.e., for any closed subspace \(Z_0\subseteq Z\) of an at most 0-dimensional compactum and for any pair of maps \(g_0:Z_0\to L(G)\) and \(h:Z\to G\) such that \(\exp\circ g_0= h|Z_0\), there is a map \(g:Z\to L(G)\) extending \(g_0\) and satisfying \(h\exp\circ g)\). The proofs use inverse limits to obtain information on \(G\).
