During the last two decades, the horizon of population biology has been much enlarged by the introduction of the concepts and methods of molecular biology into classical population genetics, creating a new field of ``population genetics at the molecular level''. In the present note, some models that might stimulate further work in theoretical population biology, with special reference to studies on the mechanism of evolution, are discussed.
