The work is based on the extended notes of the course given by the author at RIMS, Kyoto, in October 2016, and the material partially comes from his work [Nonsmooth differential geometry -- an approach tailored for spaces with Ricci curvature bounded from below. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (2018; Zbl 1404.53056)]. The lectures give a self-contained overview on the recently developed approach to differential calculus on metric measure spaces. They are devided into two main parts: The first one is devoted to first-order structure of general metric measure spaces (where the crucial role is played by the concept of $L^2$-normed $L^1$-module), while the second one deals with second-order differential structure of spaces with (Riemannian) Ricci curvature bounded from below.
