Once more this is an excellent survey of recent progress in the asymptotic theory of orthogonal polynomials. The author has given nice surveys earlier [Acta Appl. Math. 10, 237-296 (1987; Zbl 0696.42016); ibid. 33, No.~2-3, 121-164 (1993; Zbl 0799.42013)], but this time the emphasis is on some tools which are used in asymptotics for orthogonal polynomials, in particular Bernstein-Szegő polynomials and identities, the Riemann-Hilbert approach as suggested by Kokas, Its, and Kitaev in the early 1990's and worked out in detail by Deift et al., and Rakhmanov's projection identity. These techniques are explained in detail and a brief comparison between these methods is given. There is an extensive list of 123 references.
