This nice survey paper treats recent developments on orthogonal polynomials (OP's) as they are used for cubature formulae on the unit ball \(B^d\), the standard simplex \(T^d\) and the unit sphere \(S^d\). As an orthogonal basis is no longer unique, the abundance of possibilities has mainly led to a separate treatment of the orthogonal polynomials on different regions. The relation between spherical harmonics and families of orthogonal polynomials, however, shows that there exists a close relation between the main types of interest. Roughly speaking, a basis of OP's on the simplex \(T^d\) is equivalent under a simple transformation to a basis of OP's on \(B^d\) that are invariant under sign changes, and a basis of OP's on \(B^d\) is equivalent to a basis of OP's on \(S^d\) that are even in one of the variables. In the proofs (given in the references) invariance under certain groups plays an important role. Also the author discusses the so-called \textit{Lebedev} conjecture on the existence of some special cubature formulae on \(S^2\) that are invariant under the octahedral group. The paper contains a list of 56 references of which 28 have been/will be published after 1991!
