The auhtors construct a tree-shaped flow structures which connect sources or sinks with lines, surfaces and volumes. Their solutions satisfy the restriction that the length of the flow path in the elemental volume is minimal. Starting from the simplest cases toward more complex structures, the authors construct flow networks between one point and a straight line, a plane, a circle and its center, and between one point and many points distributed over an area. An analysis of optimality is made for a laminar flow.
