This paper deals with the following problem \[ \begin{cases} u_{tt}- \Delta_xu= 0\quad &\text{in }\Omega\times (0,T),\\ u_{tt}+ 2u_{t\nu}+ u_{\nu\nu}= 0\quad &\text{on }\Gamma\times (0,T),\\ u|_{t= 0}=\varphi,\;u_t|_{t= 0}=\psi\quad &\text{in }\Omega,\end{cases}\tag{1} \] where \(\Omega\) is three-dimensional rectangular, \(\Gamma= \partial\Omega\). The authors introduce a fourth-order energy instead of the second- or third-order one. Assuming that \(\varphi\) and \(\psi\) are sufficiently smooth they ignored the corner singularities. Note that the authors treat more general second-order absorbing boundary conditions which admit incident waves of certain directions be absorbed completely. Some numerical examples concerning the decay behaviour of fourth-order energy for the acoustic wave equation with the second-order absorbing BC are presented.
