The following theorem of Schmidt was reproved and extended by \textit{G. E. Andrews} and \textit{P. Paule} [ibid. 234, 95--119 (2022; Zbl 1484.11201)]: Theorem. Let \(p(n)\) be the number of partitions \(\lambda_1 + \lambda_2 + \dots\) of the integer \(n\), and let \(f(n)\) denote the number of partitions \(\pi_1 + \pi_2 + \dots\) into distinct parts \(\pi_i > \pi_{i+1}\) such that \(n = \pi_1 + \pi_3 + \pi_5 + \dots\). Then \(f(n) = p(n)\) for all \(n \geq 1\). In this paper, the authors extend and refine Schmidt's theorem in a different direction, i.e., to partitions in which periodic but otherwise arbitrary subsets of parts are counted or uncounted.
