Several authors have constructed sophisticated measures of noncompactness in order to apply Darbo type fixed point theorems to integral equations on the half-line \([0,\infty)\). A common device is here to add to a classical measure of noncompactness an additional ``truncated'' term which takes into account the asymptotic behaviour of the function sets in consideration. In this article the authors show that some approach in this spirit is erroneous inasmuch the considered functional may vanish on subsets which are not precompact, and is therefore not a measure of noncompactness. They also adjust the definition and use the correct version to deduce a fixed point theorem in Fréchet spaces.
